Why is Freon Becoming So Expensive?

Because Freon R-22 is being phased out and replaced with refrigerant that is not harmful to the ozone layer, its price continues to skyrocket. The less Freon available, the more it will cost.
If you have a Freon-based A/C system there are some things to consider:
Repair any leaks in your A/C system
Freon only needs replacing if some has leaked out. Fixing this leak will save you the money of replacing expensive Freon.
Replace your A/C
If you have an older system, fixing a leak may not be worth the money. Consider getting a new A/C system that uses the new refrigerant other than the R-22 Freon.
