New federal efficiency standards for residential water heaters — for gas, oil and electric — went into effect this month. That’s not a bad thing, but to meet these standards, the average price for a new water heater could increase anywhere from 15-35%, according to manufacturers.
You can still install a less expensive water heater from our existing stock, but supplies will become limited in the months ahead.
